Bock, doppelbock or eisbock?
Bock is a family. Here is how to spot its members on the tap list.
- Autumn bock
- The autumn classic: dark, malty and slightly sweet, with notes of caramel and toasted bread.
- Doppelbock
- Heavier and fuller than a regular bock, often with dried fruit, chocolate or toffee.
- Eisbock
- A bock that is partly frozen, making it more concentrated and stronger. One to sip.
- Spring bock
- The lighter spring sibling: paler, fresher, but still strong. Also called maibock.

When is bock beer season?
Bock season runs through autumn, with October as bock beer month. Breweries release their autumn bocks then, and they usually stay available into winter. In spring the lighter spring bock follows.
What is the VAT'33 Dubaibock?
The Dubaibock is a robust doppelbock from VAT'33, the brewery Tjaps is the home of, with notes of chocolate, pistachio, vanilla and roasted malts. It is brewed in a limited batch and is on tap at Tjaps.
What is the difference between bock and doppelbock?
A doppelbock is heavier and fuller than a regular bock, with more alcohol and often notes of dried fruit, chocolate or toffee. An eisbock goes one step further: it is partly frozen and therefore more concentrated.
Can I taste different bocks?
Yes. Everything on tap can be ordered as a beer flight: four 15 cl glasses. That way you can put an autumn bock next to a doppelbock and the Dubaibock.
Can I take bock beer home?
Yes, every bock on tap can be filled into a crowler: a 50 cl can, filled at the tap and sealed straight away. The price is the 50 cl tap price minus € 2.00. For home only.
